Session Speaker: Paul Chesser

AVP Advancement, McGill

Mr. Chesser is the Assistant Vice-Principal, Development in the Department of University Advancement at McGill. Reporting to the Vice-Principal Advancement, he is involved in all areas of fund development in support of McGill’s mission of delivering a world class educational experience and ground breaking research. On the heels of McGill’s History in the Making $1 Billion Campaign, he will be mobilizing and leading alumni and friends as McGill prepares to celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2021 and the next comprehensive fundraising campaign.

Mr. Chesser joined McGill in June of 2014 with more than twenty years of experience in higher education, having served previously at Concordia University, Queen’s University, and most recently at Carleton University. At Carleton he was the Chief Advancement Officer responsible for alumni relations, communications, and all facets of fund development.

He has presented at higher education development conferences across North America for the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He is a past board member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and of CCAE and he holds a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) accreditation.

He has a BA, Economics and a graduate diploma in Institutional Administration. As a student he was an accomplished football player, having been selected to the All-Canadian team as defensive end. Mr. Chesser has been inducted into the Sports Hall of Fames in both his hometown of North Bay, Ontario and his alma mater Concordia University, Montreal.

Before Paul, CFRE, began his career at McGill as AVP of University Advancement, he wore many hats, including assistant football coach, MVP, student recruitment officer and coordinator of Direct Mail and Tele-fundraising to name a few. With an expansive career focused on helping some of Canada’s top universities achieve aspirational fundraising goals, Paul is dedicated to reaching these goals by supporting the development of skilled and positively driven teams.
