CASE ASAP: Engaging Students in Philanthropy

By CASE District I

CASE ASAP District 1 ConferenceBy Stefanie Seslar

CASE Affiliated Student Enhancement Programs (ASAP) includes student alumni associations, student foundations, and similar organizations at more than 300 CASE member institutions. Its goal is to foster and enhance student involvement in all areas of advancement—from alumni relations and communications to fundraising, marketing, and related areas. CASE ASAP also supports the advancement profession by alerting students and their advisers of advancement opportunities, resources, and career paths.

District I has more than 40 schools with nearly 50 ASAP organizations in our member institutions.  This winter, we gathered at Bryant University for a one-day intensive brainstorm and best practice sharing experience for more than 200 current students actively involved in their campus advancement work.

The event focused on developing strategies to support the college or university mission and to engage students before graduation. Participants left with a solid foundation to become good stewards and future donors and volunteers.

At the end of the day, CASE ASAP bestowed honors for outstanding work. The award categories and winners were:

Outstanding Adviser:

Aine McAllister, Stonehill College, Student Alumni Association

Outstanding Student Leader:

Patricia Dalton, Fairfield University, Student Alumni Association

Emily Castagna, University of Connecticut, Uconn Student Alumni Association

Robert Lazzaro, Bryant University, Student Alumni Association

Outstanding Student Advancement Program:

Surprise a Smithie, Smith College, Smith Student Ambassador Program

Falcon Flights, Albertus Magnus College, Student Alumni Association

CASE District I board member Amy Haile, Senior Director of Advancement Operations at the University of New England, awarded three students scholarships from the district board to attend the CASE ASAP Conference for Student Advancement in Louisville, KY this summer.  At the conference, more than 600 students convene for more sharing and networking, all in the name of advancing our institutions and creating a pipeline of future professionals and faithful alumni.
